When life gives you lemons, make lemonade and shop local.

Downtown Evanston - Placemaking

Make Lemonade was an installation to bring color, positivity, and play to downtown Evanston. The feel-good, month-long activation encouraged the community to “make lemonade out of a year full of lemons” (2020, yeah that year) by supporting downtown shops, restaurants, and stores. The activation was paired with a scavenger hunt that bridged the physical and the digital by encouraging hundreds to explore downtown businesses, public art, and other attractions, all through an easy-to-use mobile app. Participation in the event and support of local businesses was tracked through a giant “Lemonade Pitcher” featured in a vacant storefront downtown. Placemaking, in this project, brought the sugar.
